Alumna Kelsea Parks Wierenga ’06 (Illustration) has written and illustrated her first children’s book, Sometimes I’m a Fire-Breathing Dragon, an endeavor that began as her senior thesis project at MIAD. The story follows siblings Caleb, Maia and Jack during their everyday adventures as they use their imaginations to conquer strong feelings most children experience.
A graphic designer for CreateSpace.com, a Print on Demand self-publisher and part of the Amazon.com group of companies, Parks Wierenga said, “It is truly a dream come true to see a children’s book that I wrote and illustrated get published.”
“I consider what I learned at MIAD to be invaluable,” she added. “My instructors were able to instill in me a very good balance of self-confidence with a real-world understanding. I believed in my work, and what I could achieve.”
