Layered drawings, historic plaques and a variety of print and digital media from 22 artists come together for MIAD’s fifth mounting of the biannual Mary L. Nohl Out of the Suitcase Exhibition, on view August 17 – October 5, with an opening reception September 12, 6 – 8 p.m.
Since 2003, the Mary L. Nohl Fund of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation has awarded grants for Milwaukee-area artists to transport their work – and often themselves – to nearby states and far-off countries. Out of the Suitcase highlights work from a selection of artists who received the grant within the last two years.
Director of Galleries Mark Lawson calls the exhibit a “wonderful cross section of the abundant creative talent that produces visual art in the Milwaukee region.”
Exhibiting artists include alumni Jordan Brethauer ’11, Paul Druecke ’87, Ashley Janke ’12 and Mark Mulhern ’73.
Additional participating artists include: Katherine A. Balsley, Blanche Brown, Tony Ferraro, Nicholas Grider, Yevgeniya Kaganovich, Gregory Klassen, Kay Knight, C. Matthew Luther, Marsha McDonald, Jessica Meuninck-Ganger, Zina Mussmann, Kristopher Pollard, Special Entertainment (Bobby Ciraldo + Andrew Swant), Nathaniel Stern, Victoria Tasch, Richard Taylor, Eddie Villanueva and Sarah Zamecnik.
