Harvey Opgenorth ’99 (Painting) was awarded a 2009 Mary L. Nohl Fellowship in the established artist category, only one of two artists to receive the presitigious award.
Opgenorth is a founding member of the Milwaukee arts collaborative The Rust Spot, and is the fourth corner of the WhiteBoxPainters. He has shown in solo, group and collaborative exhibitions across the United States in Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Kalamazoo, Mich., and internationally in Finland and Spain. His works reside in Microsoft’s permanent collection and have been auctioned in the world’s
leading art business and fine art auction house Christie’s.
The Nohl fellowship provides unrestricted funds for Opgenorth to create new work or complete work in progress, and culminates in an exhibit in fall 2010. Each year the program is open to practicing artists residing in the four-county area (Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington counties), and fellows are chosen by a panel of judges from outside the region.
