Sarah Eichhorn selected as Fashion and Apparel Design full-time faculty
MIAD welcomes Sarah Eichhorn as the college’s first Visiting Instructor of Fashion and Apparel Design. Eichhorn, who has taught at MIAD as an adjunct instructor since 2020, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the college’s newest major.
MIAD president teaches Approaches to Making course
Jeffrey Morin, president of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), has taken on teaching duties in addition to his role as president of the college. Internationally recognized for his book art, papermaking, letterpress prints and fine art, Morin also brings his experience as a graphic design instructor to “Approaches to Making: The Figure,” a junior-level course at MIAD.
Morgan Bouldes selected as First-Year Experience full time faculty
The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) welcomes Morgan Bouldes as the new full-time assistant professor of First-Year Experience. Bouldes joined MIAD’s teaching community in 2021 as an AICAD Post-Graduate Teaching Fellow.

Krista Meneghini selected as Interior Architecture and Design full-time faculty
The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) welcomes Krista Meneghini as the new full-time Visiting Instructor of Interior Architecture and Design. Meneghini graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 2009 and has worked professionally in the interior design field and in secondary schools.
Laura Farahzad Mayer selected as Communication Design full-time faculty
The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) welcomes Laura Farahzad Mayer as the new full-time assistant professor of Communication Design. An accomplished instructor and designer, Farahzad Mayer has an M.F.A. in Graphic Design and Printmaking from the University of Iowa.
Innovation Center students create immersive light show
In partnership with Joy Engine, a Milwaukee nonprofit dedicated to public art, students at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s (MIAD) Lubar Innovation Center created an immersive extension to the summer: a spectacular outdoor light show and festival called Nitelight.

A longtime comic book aficionado, Jordan Hart ’08 (Communication Design) developed his passion for the medium at six years old in the grocery line with his mom. Years later, Hart never would have guessed that his new comic book, Ripple Effects, would be nominated for the prestigious Eisner Award.
MIAD figure drawing model accepted into France residency
A performer by trade and longtime figure drawing model at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), Alice Wilson’s resume spans everything from sketch comedy to performing in Dead Man’s Carnival to recognition as Milwaukee’s premiere living statue artist. Now, Wilson will add an international artist and writers residency at Chateau Orquevaux in Champagne-Ardenne, France to her list of accomplishments.
High schoolers gain professional and college readiness skills
Although wrapping up in the coming days, the Pre-College program at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) will impact the city’s creative landscape for years to come. For the second consecutive year, MIAD hosted 250 high schoolers from all over the city, state and country to explore on-campus classes in everything from animation to product design to fashion upcycling.
“After Hours” exhibition showcases staff work

At its June Board of Trustees meeting, the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) welcomed four new trustees and recognized two new office appointments, including board chair.
Deanna Tillisch elected MIAD board chair
Deanna Tillisch was elected chair of MIAD’s Board of Trustees at the college’s Annual Meeting in June, succeeding outgoing Board Chair Sarah Zimmerman.
MIAD president exhibits work at University of Oxford
MIAD President Jeffrey Morin’s work has crossed the pond to be featured in Alphabets Alive!, an exhibition celebrating the artistic and social significance of alphabets. Housed in the Weston Library, part of the Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford, England, Alphabets Alive! is curated by Robert Bolick, collector of artists’ books and curator of the “Books On Books” website.

Most recently, Druecke was honored as a 2023 Mildred L. Harpole Artist of the Year for the City of Milwaukee.

The city’s first-ever QWERTYFEST MKE commemorates Milwaukee’s own Christopher Latham Sholes, who patented one of the first typewriters in 1868. Typewriters from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s (MIAD) Brooks Stevens Product Design Collection will be featured at several events during the weekend.
Children’s books and food illustration: MIAD alum finds her niche
For Amira Humes ’22 (Illustration), food illustration was always a passion. From her Senior Exhibition project at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) to her social media presence, Humes specializes in illustrating delectable scenes of mainly Filipino cuisine. This specialization paid off in an unexpected way last summer: Humes was approached by Karen Chan of Gloo Books to write and illustrate a new book for children about Filipino food.
Museum and educational design at Discovery World
Milwaukee’s iconic science and technology museum, Discovery World, unveiled two new exhibits to mark the start of the summer season. Shaping the visual landscape of the museum is Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) alum Lily Johnson ’22 (Illustration). As the museum’s graphic designer, Johnson had a pivotal hand in the creation of both “Block Party” and “Me, Undersea.”

Two alumni of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) have forged a partnership in art and in life. Justin Witte ’99 (Painting) and his wife Olivia Schreiner ’98 (Drawing) live and work in Chicago at the College of DuPage. Schreiner works as an occasional adjunct instructor of drawing at the college, while Witte is the curator for the esteemed Cleve Carney Museum of Art.
