Congratulations to MIAD’s Team Squaaaaaaw! on winning the Design Challenge sponsored by GE Healthcare at the Maker Faire Milwaukee on September 27!
Given two short days to organize teams, Industrial Design Professor Thornton Lothrop assembled three incredible teams to compete in the Design Challenge.
Winning Team Squaaaaaaw! members were sophomores Casey Bonath ’17, Justin Kornely ’17, Connor Kriha ’17 and Matthew Unger ’17.
Defeating seven other teams, including groups from Harley-Davidson and Brady Corp., Team Squaaaaaaw! worked quickly to complete the challenge: create a transport device in three hours that can carry five pounds of water through an obstacle course.
“The MIAD students recognized the educational and exciting value of this competitive event and enthusiastically embraced the challenge, in spite of being the youngest group present,” said Lothrop.
MIAD Trustee Bob Schwartz said, “The teams were given access to a big pile of junk from which to create their solutions. Time, amount of water retained and style points were all measured.”
