MIAD and its faculty and staff are playing a central role in the Americans for the Arts 2006 Annual Convention, June 3-5, at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. In addition to serving as a host organization, MIAD is hosting a pre-conference reception, and President Robert Rindler is a reviewer and award presenter for the 2006 Americans for the Arts Public Art Network (PAN) 2006 Year in Review, which highlights innovative examples of public art.
Also as part of this public art pre-conference, MIAD is co-hosting a presentation by Erika Doss, author of "Spirit Poles and Flying Pigs: Public Art and Cultural Democracy in American Communities." Professor of Sculpture Jill Sebastian has helped to organize 22 public art tours with the help of many MIAD volunteers.
In addition, MIAD is one of the starting points for a convention walking tour of the Historic Third Ward being led by Director of Outreach Josie Osborne. A tour of Riverworks features MIAD alumni from Flux Design and a Riverwest tour features MIAD alum Michael Brenner’s Hotcakes Gallery and Professor Jason Yi’s Studio.
