MIAD colleagues, students, alumni, trustees and friends will gather Thursday, December 11, 6 – 8:30 p.m., for an Homage to Steve Lacey, honoring the life and creative passion of one of the college’s most beloved educators.
Steve, an Industrial Design faculty member and director of MIAD’s 3-D lab, died on September 18. The Homage will include dedication of the 3-D Lab in Steve’s name, and the opportunity for participants to share their favorite stories about Steve and how he inspired them. It will be held in MIAD’s 4th floor gallery.
Over the course of his 27 years at the college, Steve educated generations of designers throughout the Greater Milwaukee area and the United States. While developing the 3-D lab into one of the finest educational shop facilities in the country, he touched the life of every MIAD student regardless of major.
Steve described himself as having "equal interest in design and the fine arts," and thought of his role at MIAD "as a bridge between the imagined and the realized in the production of artifacts of all types." An avid sailor of his self-built boat, Steve was also a master furniture maker who designed furniture on commission.
The community is invited to RSVP to Melissa Dorn Richards at 414‑847‑3336 or mrichard@miad.edu.
