In choosing the winners for the 2013 Foundations Juried Exhibition, juror Jodie Osborne faced a difficult decision. “I was very impressed overall with the student work, and enjoyed the variety that was submitted.”
Osborn, Director of First Year Programs of Art & Design at UW-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts, was also impressed by the various media and approaches used. “It was interesting to me to see that many of the award recipients also had other well-executed pieces in other media included in the show, demonstrating their ability to work across media and subject matter.”
Winners include:
Third Place – Caitlin Xiong, Embroidery of Words, Lychee
Third Place – Cody Powers, Journey of Feet Installation
Second Place – Melissa Johnson, 3 part illustrations of Ethan’s text
First Place – Pip Atkinson, Carousel Book, Mermaid Dwelling
The Foundations Juried Exhibition reflects the quality of MIAD’s first-year experience, which was reinvented under the leadership of Professor and Core Coordinator Jason S. Yi in 2010. The exhibit is on view in the Fourth Floor Gallery through March 9.
