The Tory Folliard Gallery-Milwaukee selected senior Painting major Boris Ostrerov the winner of the 3rd annual "Gallery Project." A collaboration between the gallery and local art colleges, the project aims to provide art students with an insider’s look into the art business.
Ostrerov will exhibit and sell his work – "Ink Paintings" – at the Third Ward gallery from March 14-29. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 1 – 3 p.m.

According to the gallery, "Ostrerov’s paintings are an investigation of physics, gravity and the physicality of painting. His images result from pouring ink onto precisely planned installations of paper the artist calls ‘paper sculptures.’
"Once the ink is applied, the artist may shake, roll or toss the paper to achieve the desired effect, allowing unexpected outcomes to balance out his calculated approach. The result is a set of stark, sophisticated paintings that are at once highly conceptual and strikingly elegant. His work is a refreshing tribute to the beauty of the natural world, rendered abstract by the laws that determine it."

"I’m excited to reveal what I’ve been working on," said Ostrerov. "Exhibiting art is like releasing your work to the public; it becomes published. Artists usually work in isolation but are always curious to see if others understand and appreciate their creations. This show is an opportunity to see this and gives me a hunch that I’m doing something right."
Ostrerov’s work was selected from among nine senior Painting majors. He is the second MIAD student to receive the Gallery Project award.
