Two new galleries exhibitions open at MIAD August 9
MIAD’s galleries are open and feature two new exhibitions, including one featuring work by Joshua Dudley Greer and one featuring work of Milwaukee area emerging and established artists.

For six years, Joshua Dudley Greer traveled over 100,000 miles by car, focusing his camera on the massive network of superhighways in the United States. Greer, who is based in Atlanta, has had work highlighted in the Washington Post, Wired magazine and The Atlantic, among other publications.
In this exhibition, Greer examines the real or imagined boundaries that line U.S. roadways and looks at the separations between public and private space, privilege and need, the individual and the collective, and the ideas of home and escape. The photographs depict the state of America’s infrastructure as a physical manifestation of its economic, social and environmental circumstances in unforeseen moments of humor, pathos and humanity.
2021 Mary L. Nohl Suitcase Exhibition

This biennial exhibition at MIAD showcases Milwaukee area emerging and established visual artists who have received the Mary L. Nohl Suitcase Travel Award in the preceding two years. The exhibition features the diversity and depth of local talent who are creating new work. The latest awardees represent the first wave of travelers since the COVID-19 pandemic began. An Artist’s Reception is Sept. 9, 6 – 8 p.m.

MIAD’s Galleries are located at 273 E. Erie St., Milwaukee. The galleries are open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is free. View directions and parking information.
MIAD’s COVID-19 protocols follow CDC guidelines and recommendations of state and local health officials. Currently, all visitors to MIAD must wear a face mask, regardless of vaccination status.

‘GQ Rebranded’ series is a hit for MIAD alum’s new studio
When Justin Thomas Kay ’04 (Communication Design) opened his own studio, JTK Studio, Inc., in New York City early this year, he hoped that his work “would contribute positively to helping to make things look nicer and more enjoyable and speak honestly to people broadly.” The new GQ Sports series “GQ Rebranded” turned out to be a good fit to do just that.

Choose Mental Health, the national voice for children’s mental health, named the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) the 2024 SMILE Award–Organization Winner for the college’s commitment to promoting mental health and well-being among its students.
Senior’s passion for Illustration and Natural Sciences thrives at MIAD
Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) senior Lilly Zbiegien’s two passions – Illustration and Natural Sciences – flourished at an early age and have continued through college. Recently Zbiegien presented her Natural Science Independent Study research, “Junkyard Nests,” showing not only the impact of plastic pollution on birds, but also her skill in portraying the environment through Illustration.
Reducing food insecurity at MIAD’s People’s Pantry
Students, staff and faculty at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) are addressing short-term food insecurity on campus with direct action. One of the college’s newest resources, the People’s Pantry, provides free food for anyone in the MIAD community who needs a meal, no questions asked.
