Work created by MIAD students as part of the LOTUS Legal Clinic’s “Untold Stories” project is on view at the Milwaukee Art Therapy Collective November 14 and 21. An online celebration, the “Lotus Untold Stories 2020 Showcase,” is November 13 at 6 p.m.

“Untold Stories” brings empowerment and healing to survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking by helping them to find their voice and develop skills to become agents of systemic change. Survivors attend a testimonial writing workshop to compose original works of literary art in community with others.

MIAD students in a humanities course developed artwork in response to the survivors’ creative writings. Students also studied survivor narratives and methodologies for healing from trauma.

MIAD students completed the work in spring 2020. The events were rescheduled for fall 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
