At the 11th Annual Midwest Fine Furnishings Show held September 16 – 18 in Wauwatosa, MacKenzie Pankey ’18 (Interior Architecture and Design) took home the Best in Show Student Work / Furniture award for her coffee table.
Pankey created the piece last year in her “Introduction to Furniture” class taught by furniture design faculty Dick Ivens and Robert Lynch.
Judges from both interior design and museum curatorial backgrounds evaluated the work, and the exhibitor booths at the show.
They named Pankey the winner in the student category, stating that her entry “demonstrated high design and a presentation of complicated geometry that was well executed.”
Pankey was in disbelief upon hearing the news that she had won. She is very grateful she had the opportunity to be a part of the event.
“Exhibiting my work at the show was an amazing experience. I learned a lot in making that table, and had to do a lot of problem solving. Seeing it finished and on display was so rewarding.”
