Supporting local artists has been the goal of the Mary L. Nohl Fund since its inception, and in its 12th year the Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists continue that tradition.
The exhibition is on view at INOVA, October 9 – January 9, Tuesday – Saturday, 12 – 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 12 – 8 p.m.
The fellowship provides grants to both established and emerging artists, supporting the visual arts community of the greater Milwaukee area. Grant recipients work is exhibited at the Institute of Visual Arts (INOVA) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
MIAD faculty members Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg are featured in the established artist category, Emily Belknap ’07 (Integrated Studio Arts), MIAD faculty, and alumna Jenna Knapp ’14 (Integrated Studio Arts) are featured in the emerging artist category. The artists were selected in November 2014, by a panel of three jurors.
The Nohl Grant assists artists in many ways, “it offers great opportunities to network with people in the art world outside of Milwaukee. You are also challenged to articulate what your work is about through writing, public speaking and informal conversation,” said McCaw.
Throughout the exhibition participating artists host artist talks and other events at INOVA. Belknap hosts a book launch and artist talk on Saturday, December 5, 2 p.m. Knapp alongside Erik Ljung hosts an artist talk on Thursday, December 17, 7 p.m.
