Two student exhibitions in November reflect the dedication and research of Foundations students, and the thoughtful responses from students of all years to observations of the Haggerty Museum of Art’s Current Tendencies III exhibition.
Research, Practice and Methods First Year Exhibition, November 13 – 26 in the Fourth Floor Gallery, showed diverse Foundations students’ works – highlighting a variety of conceptual and media approaches and the vibrant range of individual responses to contemporary art and design practices.
Students do their own research, invent their own practice and contextualize that within contemporary art and design. RPM had a reception Monday, November 18, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Read coverage from the 2012 RPM exhibition in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Also on view in the Fourth Floor Gallery November 21 – 27, Currents, Tendencies showed work from students of all years. Participating artists created works in response to their experience of the Haggerty Museum’s exhibition, Current Tendencies III. An opening reception was Thursday, November 21, 5 – 7 p.m.
Students were given the opportunity to learn more about exhibition making and engage directly with arts professionals in small groups, including William E. Carpenter ’12, Cassandra Smith ’06, Mark Mulhern ’73, and MIAD faculty Jason S. Yi, Tyanna J. Buie and Evan Gruzis. Lynne Shumow, curator of education at the Haggerty Museum of Art, initiated this show with MIAD Chair of Fine Arts Michael Davidson. View student portfolios.
