Industrial Design student’s Delta Faucet design now patent-pending

The next faucet in your kitchen could be designed by Logan Gage ‘18 (Industrial Design).

Logan won first place in the 2017 Delta Faucet Design Contest, a collaboration between the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) and Delta Faucet. His design is now patent-pending.

Each year, Delta Faucet sends its design staff to MIAD “to mentor, critique and advise students as professionals regarding aspects of designing in the upscale water faucet and plumbing markets,” said Professor John Caruso.

The 2017 design brief was “Disruptive Design,” with the objective to create a pull-down kitchen faucet that challenged accepted market trends and existing kitchen faucet aesthetics.

According to the Delta design staff, “Logan’s concept stood out as an outstanding and subtle design that pushes the limits of color and detail, but in a way that is still familiar and will fit in the majority of market segments.”

They continued, “The minimal use of line, the subtle curves and the warm touch of wood was a refreshing take on the market segment.”

Both the first-place win and filing for the patent were confidence boosters for Logan. He also recently received an honorable mention at the 2018 International Housewares Association’s 25th Annual Student Design Competition for his twist jar opener design. He will take these accolades and real-world experiences into his future career.

“This kind of direct interaction and collaboration with professional designers was a great experience that I rank among the most valuable experiences of my career at MIAD,” said Logan.
