Olympic connection: MIAD student designs materials for U.S. National Olympic Speedskating Trials during internship
When it comes to internships, Nathan Fetherston ‘18 (Communication Design) won the gold.
After working with the Pettit National Ice Center in his Identity Design course at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) last year, Nathan was encouraged to apply for a Pettit summer design internship, designing for the 2018 U.S. National Olympic Speedskating Trials.
For Nathan, it was a thrill. “The Olympics is one of my favorite reasons to be on this planet,” he says, adding that it was “exhilarating to work on something real that you really love.”
He designed event tickets, directional signage, digital billboards, outdoor fencing signage, light post banners, credentials and more.
The internship is one of many real-world design opportunities Nathan experienced through MIAD’s Communication Design degree program. MIAD’s Communication Design program was recently named one of GDUSA’s Top Graphic Design Schools, in part for its career preparation for students.
