Lillian Duermeier (Illustration ’11) received an Honorable Mention from the Japan Foundation for her entry in the 2010 Annual International Furoshiki Design Contest.
Her submission was one of ten honorable mentions from over 200 total entries.
The competition challenged students to design original Furoshiki, or wrapping cloths, that depict Japan and their respective countries. Entries were evaluated on concept, design and originality.
Art and design school students from nine countries- including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Russia, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam- submitted Furoshiki design proposals.
Forty-five entries came from the United States, including Duermeier’s.
Duermeier also received a first place award for designing the winning promotional poster for the Penfield Children Center’s Annual Croquet Ball last fall.
Penfield and MIAD have partnered over the last several years through an introduction by Cramer-Krasselt, a major national advertising agency that coordinates and art directs this project on a pro bono basis. Duermeier’s poster was auctioned at the event to benefit Penfield.
