Alumna and arts activist Melissa Dorn Richards ’96 was selected for an exhibition at Gallerie M inside the InterContinental Milwaukee. “Melissa Dorn Richards: Recent Work” is on view at Gallerie M through early January. An artist’s reception will take place December 21, from 5 to 7 p.m.
"Gallerie M is a beautiful space that works well with the bold colors and strong, clean shapes in my paintings,” Dorn Richards said.
Her paintings reflect shapes and colors inspired by a variety of subject matter – from objects to landscapes. Dorn Richards is represented by The Leigh Gallery in Chicago, and has exhibited widely, including Indiana Green, Juarez Invitational; Aqua Art Miami, Hotcakes Gallery; and Impromptu, Cedar Gallery.
Gallerie M is also poised to launch a new partnership with MIAD that will allow for a student, selected by MIAD, to curate the gallery. Curatorial duties will be supported by a stipend from MIAD. In turn, InterContinental Milwaukee will make an annual contribution to MIAD Scholarships.
More information on this exhibition is available on the InterContinental website.
MIAD students and alumni exhibit widely throughout Milwaukee and the world, including at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Tory Folliard Gallery, Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and in prestigious venues such as GDS Galeria in Costa Rica, Zuisho-ji Art Projects in Japan and Palazzo delle Papesse Centro Arte Contemporanea in Italy.
