Senior Aryn Kresol (Photography ’11) received a job offer with the prestigious Haggerty Museum of Art following an internship there last summer.
Kresol said she spoke with Director Wally Mason, and Associate Curator Annemarie Sawkins, PhD., after a visit to the museum with her Professional Practices class.
"They were extremely welcoming," said Kresol, "which made me excited about the prospect of working there."
Although she had been to the museum before, Kresol said she never thought to inquire about an internship until she was encouraged by MIAD adjunct instructor and well-known photographer Kevin Miyazaki, and Photo Department Lab Technician Tara Bogart.
According to Kresol, the internship gave her a better understanding of the functions of a private museum. She worked in three different areas – with Sawkins, Registrar John Loscuito and Preparator Dan Herro.
"It was clear from the beginning that she could help in many ways," said Loscuito. "Aryn is detail-oriented, thorough, self-sufficient, and a great asset to the museum."
At the end of her internship, Kresol was offered a position as Assistant Registrar and the opportunity to continue working for the Haggerty.
"Registration is essentially collection management," said Kresol. "I help keep track of what is in the collection, monitor new acquisitions, conduct research, fill out condition reports, and assist [Preparator] Dan Herro with rotation (when the museum is changing from one exhibition to the next)."
"My internship and my position at the Haggerty have certainly been fulfilling and will provide me with the experience and knowledge to make for a successful career, whether that is in a museum or gallery."
