Faculty share inspiration as artists and educators

MIAD faculty offer their students, and the public, a unique learning opportunity by sharing the passions that inspire and inform them as visual artists and educators in the MIAD 2010 Faculty Exhibition. Their multidisciplinary and multimedia works are on view September 14 – October 23, with an opening reception Thursday, September 16, 6 – 8 p.m., and faculty readings September 30, 7 p.m., in the Frederick Layton Gallery.
Among the more than 30 participating faculty are:
- Jan Feldhausen, Foundations Professor, whose ink on paper and paper masks are part of the Joker/Jester series of sabbatical work, which explores dichotomy themes through imagery appropriated from joker playing cards. Feldhausen, recently nominated for the Master Educator Award by the national organization of foundations educators, will present on MIAD’s Foundations curriculum at the SECAC/MACAA College Art Conference in Richmond in October.
- Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg, Foundations/Fine Art faculty and staff, who recently gave a talk in Los Angeles as part of MKE>LAX, an artist exchange program founded by MIAD alum Sara Dalaeiden. The artists will show their work in October at the James Watrous Gallery in Madison and in February at the Lynden Sculpture Garden in Milwaukee.
- Will Pergl, Associate Professor trained in both painting and sculpture, whose installation work was shown last June at the 2010 International VSA Festival: Exhibitions at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and whose video work was screened as part of the Milwaukee International Film Festival in Wisconsin, London, and Chicago.
- Sonja Thomsen, Foundations faculty, selected from among nearly 500 applicants for the 2010 Wisconsin Triennial on view at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art this summer, and whose work is in the permanent collection of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
