The Milwaukee Public Museum celebrated its 125th anniversary this month by unveiling a commissioned mural painted by recent grad Brooklyn Henke during her spring internship there.
“Brooklyn’s mural honors the museum and its history, evoking many of its exhibits and displays, most notably, gorilla Samson, a zoo icon for 30 years, said MPM’s Richard Hedderman. “We selected Brooklyn from among the other applicants because of the artistic skill and imagination we knew she would bring to the project.”
Henke, whose work has been exhibited at a Milwaukee Art Museum MAM After Dark program, said the internship “fit perfectly with her goals and aspirations as an artist.” Currently working on commissions, she is pursuing her interest in natural history art, from painting to illustration, and in scenic stage art.
