The winners of the 2008 Milwaukee 48 Hour Film Project, "Backwoods" and "Magic Pen," were screened at Filmapalooza at the Miami International Film Festival March 13-15. The films were made in only 48 hours by Studio Bob Simmons, led by MIAD Time-Based Media Faculty Joe Shakula as director and cinematographer Don Ford ’08. Shakula, Ford and actor Nathan Polzer received a trophy for their achievement at the festival and met other 48HFP winners from around the world.
The 48 Hour Film Project is the oldest and largest timed film competition in the world, involving some 75 cities and 30,000 filmmakers.
Shakula and the Studio are currently working on the locally produced independent feature film, "Spirit Lake," with Ford; MIAD alum Heather Hass ’08, David Schuttenhelm ’08, Vassi Slavova ’08; and current students Nathan Behmlander ’09, Erik Holman ’09, Martin Kraszewski ’09 and Jose Velez ’09.
