The International Woodworking Fair chose Christian Franczyk ’17 (IA+D) and Jennifer Voss ’18 (IA+D) as two of just 31 finalists in the 2016 Design Emphasis Student Furniture Design Competition held August 23, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Franczyk and Voss applied for acceptance by submitting photos and descriptions of their work, with support from furniture design faculty Robert Lynch and Dick Ivens.
In the competition, Franczyk’s credenza competed in the case goods category. Voss’s coffee table went up against other student tables in accent furniture.
A panel of furniture industry designers, manufacturing and retail executives and members of the trade press judged the entries on criteria such as design, manufacturing, marketability and workmanship.
When the day of judging was complete, Franczyk nabbed an Honorable Mention.
“Attending the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta was one of the most amazing experiences I have had while attending MIAD. It was an incredible honor to exhibit the drinks credenza alongside some incredible student-built furniture pieces at the Design Emphasis Competition.”
